PHNOM PENH, May 1 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet on Wednesday celebrated the 138th International Labor Day with more than 1,000 employees at the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port in southwestern Preah Sihanouk province. At the event, Hun Manet took selfies with the workers before delivering a speech calling for harmony between employees and employers to build a peaceful atmosphere at their working places. "I'd like to emphasize that the government in this new term will continue to pay high attention to promoting the rights and protecting the benefits of all workers across the country," he said in the speech live broadcast on the state-run TVK. Hun Manet also promised to push for better working conditions and further increase the minimum wage for workers in the garment, footwear, and travel goods industry. The current minimum wage for the workers is 204 U.S. dollars per month. The multi-billion-dollar garment, footwear, and travel goods sector, the kingdom's largest foreign exchange earner, comprised about 1,680 factories with some 918,000 workers, mostly women, according to the Ministry of Labor.
